Mommie Jo's
About This Spot
Pulling up to Mommie Jo’s, you immediately sense the gentle rhythm of a cherished neighborhood spot on Louisiana’s bayou edge—a place where time unhurriedly holds space for shared meals and familiar smiles. The modest size of the restaurant invites a cozy intimacy; the clink of plates, soft laughter, and warm greetings fill the air, creating an atmosphere where comfort feels effortless and well-rooted.
As the evening settles, the pace here feels unpretentious yet lively, with tables filling steadily and conversations weaving through the aroma of rich spices and sizzling seafood. The hum of kitchen craft resonates in the background, reminding you this is a place of culinary care rather than flashiness. Every seat seems to offer a vantage point into a story—of local hands handling fresh catches, of recipes passed down and lovingly perfected over time.
The menu is an invitation to explore the bayou’s bounty, where the familiar meets the unexpected. A hearty platter might arrive bearing the catch of the day alongside subtle bursts of flavor from stuffed jalapeños or a bowl of gumbo, grounding you in traditions that feel both humbly straightforward and deeply satisfying. Whether it’s the peel-away tenderness of fried chicken or the layered textures of a seafood-stuffed baked potato, each bite is a gentle reminder that nourishment here is as much about the mood around the table as the food itself.
What stands out at Mommie Jo’s is how the atmosphere mirrors the food—unassuming, warm, and welcoming. Even when the dining room fills quickly, it never feels rushed or impersonal. The staff’s friendly attentiveness and the homey décor invite you to settle in, relax, and let the flavors and friendly chatter wash over you like a quiet bayou breeze.

I had the seafood platter with soft shell crab which had a cup of seafood gumbo. All of it was cooked to my liking. I had the crab cut in half before frying. It is a small place and fills up fast around dinnertime. The close quarters is why the 4 star.

Mommie Jo's is one of the best places to eat on the bayou, bar none. The staff is friendly, the service is fast, and the good is great. Their seafood baked potato is only $5.50, and it is wonderful - huge and filling. Steak night is on Wednesday night, and the steaks are big enough so that two people can dine off of one order. Great place!

A ‘Just-right’ sized diner. I counted twelve tables and there may be counter-top seating as well. I’ve rarely had a better baked potato. Restrooms are very clean, all modern, decor is very much homey. Waitstaff are friendly and on-point. Can’t wait to get back here to try more of the menu.

I have travelled 63 countries. This is without question, the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. I don’t have photos. I always get side tracked and gobble it up! The Griaads come with diplomas. I had them put mine on a salad with their house dressing. Then I get the Cajun Tart custard pie on my way home from Cajun Pecan House…. My Lord. Nothing in the world could come close. If Heaven were a food, you would find it here.

This is a nice southern style restaurant with down-home cooking. We ordered the special, which was fried chicken, a cup of gumbo, and a side of potato salad. The fried chicken was really good. It was seasoned nicely. The gumbo was okay. It lacked seasoning, but I added some salt, and it was okay. I enjoyed going outside on the deck to see the fish, turtles, and an alligator swimming around in the Bayou. The customer service was good too, despite it being really busy. I would definitely come back here!
